Research P1

Andric Ljubodrag was born in 1965 to a family of artists; his mother an actress, his father a writer and his brother a painter. He landed his first paid photography job at the age of 21

I chose to research Andric as I believe his images were the most noticeable to be Altered yet they don’t look simple to make as he is warping a somewhat normal image to a completely different setting which makes it look really unrealistic but has a fun concept

Chrisoffer Relander

Chrisoffer Relander born in 1986 in a small town of Ekenäs, near Helsinki. He began doing art at an early age after finishing his marines service in 2008. Him being a self taught photographer meant that he would tend to experiment with the exposure of the camera and such, resulting in these images

I chose to research him mainly due to the pictures within his ‘Neonland’ project where he merges the night light, urban Hong Kong life to the more peaceful quiet rural life. This gives it a futuristic, neon, techno appeal while giving it a warm comfort of the dimly blue street light with the soft cherry blossom. There are also many other projects where he use double exposure such as ‘we are nature’ with 5 versions and ‘jarred and displaced’ with two projects on it

Analysis

In this image Chrisoffer Relander uses multiple images and combines them together. He does this by getting two similar images with the same type of setting, one being the lake the other being the cherry blossom flowers. He crops the blossoms so they blend in with the bottom half of the image while also reducing the opacity on the top half of the blossoms not completely erasing it but keeping it low so it’s more like a haze, mirage. As a final touch he adds in the street light in the centre which makes it a focus point, he then makes sure to remove the background of the street light so it doesn’t ruin the nature of the lake and blossoms, Thus creating a floating light making the image look futuristic

This was used in a advertisement for a charity group that helps children through Neurofibromatosis which is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissues.

In this image Chrisoffer Relander uses combined images to combine a child with wildlife. He crops the child’s shirt, only using the top half of the shirt while also making the edge of his clothes have plants pointing out of it as if the child was a plant. This gives a sense of purity and nature to the child

Andreas Gursky

Andreas Gursky was born in Germany, 1955. He has been doing doing altered landscapes for a huge portion of his life and he became extremly succesful from it, to the point that he sold one of his pieces for $4,338,500 to the Christie’s, New York in 2011

I chose him as he has a good representation of what altered landscapes as they blend in well making the image look like it’s real only to find out that most of it has been altered

Analysis

In this image Andreas Gursky uses landscape manipulation to manipulate the looks of the landscape. In this image Andreas makes the image unrealistic but at the same time add enough detail to it to make it believable for example the reflection in the water plays a good part in adding realism to the image

Image result for rhein ii how it was made
Rhein II sold for $4.3 million

This image was taken by Andreas Gursky, of a river that flows horizontally across the field of view. As for the altering of the image there was dog walkers and a factory that were edited out creating a very empty space of land

Nancy Burson

Nancy Burson was born in America 1948. She is know for creating images using computer morphing resulting in her being able to merge images together

I chose to research about Nancy Burson due to her use of Distored self and obscured identities in a way that is simple and gives meaning for example the lion and the sheep is the Hunter and the prey, the strong and weak

Trump & Putin

Analysis

In this image Nancy Burson uses a image of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and merges the two of them together but she tries to keep the image realistic so it doesn’t look too merged but you can notice small features that suggest that it’s been merged for example the hair. The image can also be considered political or has a meaning behind it instead of being a random merge
